Whose fault is it anyway: Business or residential address

An LTL shipper indicates that their shipment is being delivered to a business, however, the carrier says that the delivery is actually residential, and charges the shipper a fee.

Whose fault is it anyway?

In this case, the shipper. Here’s why.

In this scenario, the shipper believed that they booked a shipment going to a business address but after the truck arrived to make the delivery, they discovered that it was a private home with a business operating out of it. After the delivery was made, the carrier charged the shipper a residential delivery fee because extra services were required to complete the delivery. In LTL, delivering to private homes or businesses in residential areas are generally avoided. Had the shipper consulted us, we would have checked the addressee on a satellite enabled map to confirm the location and helped the shipper get an accurate rate for delivery. Unfortunately, scenarios like this are not uncommon and shippers find themselves facing fees they weren’t anticipating.

Here at Koho we are focusing on helping shippers and carriers see eye-to-eye with our LTL booking platform.
