While price is certainly important, the cheapest rate and best rate are not always the same thing. The cheapest rate may look like the obvious choice, until unforeseen issues arise
Because LTL shipments are often transferred between multiple trucks and terminals on their route, the volume of cargo and the number of trucks a carrier has working in a particular lane can affect how fast a load is picked up between transit hubs.
Providing ample lead time for carriers and securing capacity as soon as possible can vastly improve your ability to meet your transit time goals.
You can usually find the number at the top right hand corner of the bill of lading, next to the words 'BOL #'. The number is always made up of 4 letters (the carrier's code), followed by an “8, 10 or 12” digit code.
A reference number, PRO number, or BOL number can be used to track an item, other information such as a name or address cannot be used to track items. If you use a 3PL, you can usually track your shipment online through your account dashboard.
A valid LTL tracking number is typically the PRO number or BOL number for your shipment. This information can be found on your bill of lading and can be used to look up the last recorded location of your shipment.
