The main drawback to crating is that it can be expensive, and the added weight and size can often result in a higher cost to ship, even for smaller items.
When utilizing pallets for packing your LTL shipment, make sure that the pickup and delivery locations have either a forklift or a loading dock and pallet jack, or you must request a liftgate on the truck in order to load the shipment.
Make sure to check all of the details on your Bill of Lading (BOL) before you attach it to your shipment. If any information on the BOL is incorrect, it can result in delayed delivery times and significant additional fees.
Typically, a bill of lading will include the names and addresses of the shipper (consignor) and the receiver (consignee), shipment date, quantity, exact weight, value, freight classification, BOL number, and any special instructions.
When it comes to LTL shipping, there are three documents that are required for every shipment: the bill of lading, freight bill, and Proof of Delivery.
Liquids must be packed in a waterproof, sealable container. The container must be kept upright in the cardboard box, and the box must be marked as “Fragile” to ensure it is not kept upside down during shipping.
