However, a base rate for cargo insurance usually starts the value of what you’re insuring. A percentage is then calculated based off a dollar value (usually in cents) to every $100 of the invoice total. That percentage will dictate the minimum cost of insurance.
Generally speaking, freight insurance will cost between 0.5% and 2% of the value of the goods being shipped. The actual cost may depend on other factors, including the freight class and general liability of the items.
