PTL refers to partial truckload shipping, which is a hybrid between LTL and FTL (full truckload) shipping.
Limited access locations are defined by the following conditions: not open to the walk-in public during normal business hours, not having personnel readily available to assist with the delivery or pickup function, and not having access to loading dock or platform.
A limited access location is any destination that LTL trucks cannot enter and make a standard delivery or pickup. This means the driver will require more time and work to load, unload, and deliver a shipment. This can include not having a loading dock, the space being too small for a truck to enter, not having access during normal business hours, or not having personnel available to assist with the delivery.
