The information you fill out when you obtain a carrier quote is transferred to the bill of lading (BOL). It should contain all the necessary information regarding the cargo’s description, origin, destination, and consignee.
You should check on the location and status of your shipment frequently to stay on top of any potential delays, so you can adjust your expectations and adapt your supply chain, if necessary.
Packaging your freight correctly is the best way to protect your items from damage and make them easier to transport.
While palletizing shipments is preferable, and will increase the transportability of the cargo, making your freight classification lower and less expensive, it is not required. LTL can accommodate many oversized, oddly-shaped, or uniquely-packaged shipments.
The average cost for LTL shipments will vary depending on the carrier, freight class, and other factors. Many LTL shipments will cost between $0.22 and $0.42 per pound, while some will fall into a wider range of $0.10 to $0.75 per pound.
The first and most universal way to track your shipment through your LTL carrier is by using the bill of lading (BOL) number. Every BOL issued has a unique number assigned to it, and entering the BOL number into most LTL carriers’ websites will provide the shipment’s most recent logged location.
